Anrich Nortje, born on November 16, 1993, is a professional cricketer from South Africa. He made his international debut for the South African cricket team in March 2019. Nortje was honored as the newcomer of the year at Cricket South Africa’s annual awards ceremony in July 2020. He is known for his role as a right-arm fast bowler and right-handed batsman.

Nortje also represents the Eastern Province team in domestic cricket as a fast bowler. His passion for cricket began at a young age, and he pursued it ardently, enrolling in a Cricket Academy to enhance his skills. Currently, he plays for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League as a fast bowler.

Anrich Nortje’s cricket journey has seen him play for various domestic teams and T20 franchises. In 2016, he represented Eastern Province in the Africa T20 Cup. He was part of Cape Town Blitz’s squad for the inaugural Mzansi Super League T20 tournament in October 2018 but was sidelined midway due to an ankle injury. Kolkata Knight Riders picked him in the 2019 IPL auction, but a shoulder injury forced him out of the tournament. Later, he joined Cape Town Blitz for the 2019 Mzansi Super League. Released by Kolkata Knight Riders in 2020, he joined St Lucia Zouks for the Caribbean Premier League but couldn’t participate due to travel issues. In August 2020, he joined Delhi Capitals in the IPL as a replacement for Chris Woakes and set a record for the fastest delivery in the IPL.

Turning to his international career, Nortje made his ODI debut for South Africa against Sri Lanka in March 2019. He was set to debut in T20Is but was ruled out due to injury. Named in South Africa’s squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup, he had to withdraw due to a hand injury. In August 2019, he debuted in T20Is against India, followed by his Test debut against the same team in October. His impressive performance in the fourth Test against England in January 2020 earned him his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket. In recognition of his talent, Cricket South Africa awarded him a national contract in March 2020.
