Patel moved to the USA in 2016, after receiving a green card in 2010, settling in New Jersey. He started playing for the United States in 2018 as a right-handed top-order batsman and wicket-keeper.
Patel’s international career highlights include being the leading run-scorer in the 2018–19 ICC World Twenty20 Americas Qualifier tournament and the 2018–19 Regional Super50 tournament. He also made his List A debut for the United States in October 2018. scored the first century by an American batsman in the tournament against Jamaica. Patel has represented the United States in various tournaments, including the ICC World Cricket League Division Three tournament in Oman and the ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament in Namibia, where the team gained One Day International (ODI) status. He made his ODI debut for the United States in April 2019 against Papua New Guinea. Patel was part of the United States training squad for the Regional Finals of the ICC T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier tournament. He also participated in the Regional Finals of the ICC T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier tournament in August 2019.
