Captain Of West Indies

Rovman Powell, born on July 23, 1993, is a cricketer from Jamaica who represents the West Indies cricket team and currently serves as the captain in T20I format. In December 2018, he led the West Indies for the first time in a One Day International (ODI) match against Bangladesh. Powell has also played for domestic teams like Jamaica, the Combined Campuses and Colleges, and the Jamaica Tallawahs.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Powell’s early life in the Bannister area of Old Harbour Bay mark by financial challenges as his father had abandoned his mother. Despite growing up in relative poverty, Powell took on responsibilities, caring for his younger sister while his mother worked multiple jobs. He attended Old Harbour High School and, at one point, worked as a goat-herder. Despite the hardships, Powell’s talent in cricket earned him a sports scholarship to the University of the West Indies, where he studied geography and social studies.

The ICC has just revealed the venue for the T20 Cricket World Cup 2024. Starting on June 4, 2024, all matches will take place in the West Indies and America. It has report that Darren Sammy is set to coach the West Indies team, bringing with him numerous qualities essential for the coaching role.

Daren Sammy, born on December 20, 1983, is a cricketer from Saint Lucia who played for the West Indies in international cricket. Currently serving as the head coach of the West Indies cricket team in limited-overs cricket, Sammy made history by becoming the first person from St. Lucia to play international cricket in 2004, making his debut against Bangladesh.

Known for his impressive performances, Sammy’s Test debut in 2007 against England showcased his bowling skills with figures of 7/66, the best by a West Indian in their debut since Alf Valentine in 1950. As a captain, he led West Indies to victory in the ICC World Twenty20 in 2012 and 2016, making him the only captain to win the T20 World Cup twice. Additionally, he was part of the West Indies team that won the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy. In current Darren Sammy  set to coach the West Indies team.

Sammy has also contributed to the Pakistan Super League, captaining Peshawar Zalmi from 2017 to 2020 and later taking on a two-year head coaching contract. Despite being drop as T20I captain in 2016, Sammy receive honors, including being appoint as Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2017 Birthday Honours.
