Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman has been signed by Chennai Super Kings for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The defending champions secured the left-arm pacer at his base price of Rs 2 crore during the IPL auction 2024. Mustafizur Rahman made his IPL debut in 2016 when he was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad after his impressive performances in international cricket, including picking up five-wicket hauls against India in his first two ODIs.

In his debut IPL season, Rahman played a crucial role, taking 17 wickets and helping Sunrisers Hyderabad clinch their maiden IPL title. However, Rahman’s form has fluctuated in subsequent seasons. Over the past five seasons, he has managed to pick up more than 10 wickets only once. In the last two IPL seasons, playing for Delhi Capitals, he could only manage 9 wickets in 10 games. Similarly, his performance in the recent World Cup was underwhelming, with just 5 wickets in 8 games.

Mustafizur Rahman, a Bangladeshi international cricketer, represents the Bangladesh National cricket team as a left-arm fast-medium bowler and left-handed batsman. He currently plays for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), having previously played for the Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals. Mustafizur has also participated in numerous domestic cricket tournaments for various teams.

Born on September 6, 1995, in Satkhira, Khulna, Bangladesh, Mustafizur developed a passion for cricket from a young age. Despite initial resistance from his father, who wished for him to become a doctor, Mustafizur pursued his cricketing dreams. He began his cricketing journey playing with a tennis ball before focusing on bowling, eventually earning admission to the Professional Cricket Academy.

• Mustafizur made his debut in first-class and List-A cricket for Khulna Division and Abahani Limited in 2014, and he was later selected for the Bangladesh Under-19 squad for the 2014 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. His impressive performances caught the attention of the Bangladesh Cricket selectors, leading to his debut for the national team.
• In April 2015, Mustafizur made his T20 International debut against Pakistan, followed by his One Day International (ODI) debut against India in June 2015, where he took a five-wicket haul. He made his Test debut against South Africa in July 2015.
• In the IPL, Mustafizur was drafted by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2016 auction and was named the Emerging Player of the Tournament after picking up 17 wickets. He later played for the Mumbai Indians and was then bought by the Rajasthan Royals in 2021. In 2022, he joined the Delhi Capitals and was retained for the 2023 season.
